Planning for Web Page
For my website, I decided to incorporate elements I had found from the previously researched websites for pop artists, including both branding and visual elements as aforementioned.
Firstly, I centered everything and didn't have any jarring elements at the sides that may be distracting, in order to keep with the clean, efficient look, I took inspiration from Taylor Swift's site and chose to have all my content available on one page and completely omitted a header with sub-pages.
The homepage that greets you presents an image of the band. Scrolling down, the page has many features elements, including a YouTube link to the latest music video, as well as albums and a featured interview. All of this was done to make sure that the band's website has all the integrated branding features that all of the researched pop artist sites have too, as it is important to be included for the band's image, along with promotions.
The background images of the sky were taken by me and were lightly edited. I used images of the sky since it seemed appropriate considering the band's name. I then furthered the theme of weather when making the fake album names and covers.
The featured albums were a mix of images I had taken and heavily edited stock images.
The idea for my audiovisual content was to include an interview that I would record with my friends who were the 'members' of the band. Due to recent current events and a lockdown being enforced, my friends had to record themselves at home and I then created the interview around those audio clips.
The interview was included as to give the band reputation, to display that, as a pop band, they would have companies and journalists wish to interview them.
I thought on the other end of the spectrum, it would be valuable to include a brief biography for the band, to bring elements of synthetic personalisation, as large artists often do, to attempt to emphasise a more personal relationship with the fans/reader. This is a method that fans will respond positively to, as it appears though there is less of a disconnect between the artist and the audience, despite a complete disconnect usually.
The merchandising aspect of it seemed natural to include for what is supposed to be a large pop band. I used Photoshop to edit some solid colour clothing stock images and add what is the logo I made for The Indoor Kites branding.
Finally, I added a Newsletter, as to further reinforce and reiterate the interactive nature of the band and the synthetic personalisation.
I asked for peer feedback when the site was close to finished, and two of the comments I received were "It looks very professional" and "That does look pretty good".
Overall, I felt I did adequately in making the website feel authentic and presenting the band as an accurate contemporary representation.
